Hello music students, parents and alumni. Welcome to Arundel Music 2009-2010.

Seeing that this is the forum section, I am obliged to again promote the use of this forum as a means for obtaining immediate information on the AHS music program, as well as providing a chance for students, parents, faculty and staff, and alumni to address concerns, compare notes and promote the program from within. Many students use Facebook and MySpace as a daily part of their social computing, but the AIMA forum allows all parties equal access to the comments and concerns regarding the year in music.

Currently we have about 40 subscribers to the forum. Some of those are parents, many are alumni- - and yes, we have a few students. What we need -- at a minimum -- are the student sectional leaders, as well as the senior AIMA officials to join the forum and participate.

AIMA President Andy Musliner has joined and is already putting out news and information for band students and parents. AIMA Secretary Kathy Mackey and co-publicists Joe Fleming and Randy Buckley are also on board. Senior Drum Major Katy Protin is registered, as are Kristie Clemens and Anna Mackey, the returning guard captains.

There are a few others, most from the current junior and sophomore classes. We need the student leaders to join and prompt their section members to join as well. We also need the Tri-M officers to join since there is a specific section dedicated to Tri-M.

Second, we need the parents to be involved. These are your students and we would like you to join the forum to keep track on band, orchestra and guard activities. We also want to hear your comments because those comments could help AIMA in supporting their musical effort.

Over the past few years, there have been many AHS alumni and alumni parents as participants -- those who have a loyalty to Dr. Butts and Arundel for the four (or more) years with the Wildcat Band. We encourage their continued participation and welcome those from the newest alumni to participate and keep the ties alive. They are on the forum to help the students and program.

There are some recreational areas (movie and music critiques, sports commentary). In addition, we added sections last year for middle school band questions and concerns, and now run a blog on college music events that involve Arundel alumni, as well as current Arundel students. For example, the Anne Arundel Community College Jazz Band blog has run for two years and is co-moderated by Marty Knepp, a 1981 Arundel graduate who directs the AACC Jazz Band.

Forum registration is easy, and it is free. As more people join and take on visible roles, we'll assign them moderator status to handle section discussions. It will keep you involved with a tremendous music program that annually earns awards from county, state and national competitions.

Please take the time to register, and please actively participate in the forum.

Steve "Brassaghast" Barrett
Senior moderator emeritus, AIMA Forum.
